Can anyone give me the basics? I looked up the tutorials but they weren't talking about siggies or avvies or anything and I guess I just need a basic step by step, what buttons to push, things like that.
I have photoshop C3 in case that makes a difference...

OK, I must say I'm not good in tutorials but hopefully this helps or at least you get the picture This is the basic of making a sig, including how to blend a picture and how to make a text. 1. Open your Adobe Photoshop
2. Click 'File' --> 'New'
3. After you click 'New', you'll see THIS Because you're going to make a sig, then the size you need is 500x200. On width, type '500' and on height, type '200'. Leave them in pixels. The resolution is not required, but you can type 72, leave them in 'Pixels/Inch'. You can ignore it if you want.
Click OK!
4. A blank white canvas will appear. Now, leave it for a moment. Click 'File', but this time click 'Open'. Pick two pictures you'd like to use for the signature.
5. After you pick those two pictures, it will appear like THIS Now, all you need to do is just drag the pictures to the canvas and position them as you like. The first picture you drag to the canvas is Layer 1, the second picture is Layer 2. Like THIS
6. To adjust the picture to fit the canvas, right click on the picture you wish to adjust. If you'd like to adjust the first picture, right click on it, then click on Layer 1 --> Click 'Edit' --> Free Transform. Or you can also click Ctrl+Alt+T. It will appear like THIS
7. Click the arrows to adjust the picture. If you can't see the entire frame, Press Ctrl - (if the picture is too big, the frame follows the original size of the picture).
8. After you have adjusted the pictures, you might see one of them looks hidden. Right click on layer 2 or 1, then press Ctrl ] to make the picture look visible or Ctrl [ to make the picture look hidden. In my graphic, I made layer 2 look visible, like THIS
9. Blending time! Still on layer 2, now click on Eraser Tool under Tools Menu. The icon is located below the Stamp icon. Look above, you'll see 'Brush' and next to it, there's a black circle and next to it, there's an arrow. Click on the arrow and scroll down until you see black circles with soft edges. Click on one of the soft-edged circles. You can select the Master Diameter as you like, it counts on how big or small the picture you want to blend is. You can also select the opacity. The opacity is located next to 'Mode' and is important. It counts on the picture will look, like it will look nice-blended or not. Try to select 70% on the opacity (except your two pics have same background, you can use 100%). Then slowly erase the layer 2, on the side you'd like to blend with the other picture. Erase slowly, don't erase the entire layer. It will appear like THIS.
10. Done with the images! Yay! But it's not finished yet. It's time for the text! I always love this. Click on icon 'T' under Tools Menu. Then click anywhere you'd like to write the text. Don't forget to consider about the color, font size, and type. They depend if text will look visible or readable. In my graphic, I made the text in white.
11. Last one, it's not necessary, but it's fun! You can customize the text! First, highlight the text, then go to Layer (under Menu Bar) --> Layer Style --> Blending Options. You can add shadows, shiny outlines, etc. In my graphic, I made the text to have a shadow so that it looks even more visible.
This is the final result:
12. You can take a deep breath now, because you're finished! Now to save your work, go to File --> Save for Web --> Save. It's actually simple, maybe it sounds a bit complicated because again, I'm not good in tutorials. If you're confused, just ask, ask, ask!!
