Hello fellows of OT,
You can say this thread is like a newsletter. I know maybe the news is pretty late.
News about Nike
As we all know, on Monday July 1st, we were shocked by the news about Nike, which Helios has told us. She has left us forever. This week is a mourning week for OT for she is a dedicated member and a good friend to all of us. Some members even have expressed their feelings and thoughts on her in beautiful poems, graphics, words, and even this skin is up to commemorate her, for she will always be part of us.
MOTM
OK, next news is about the voting round of July, which you can say the result of MOTM is a bit...odd, because the admin herself (me) won the vote. I just wanted to make sure that I didn't vote for myself nor asking other members to vote for me. Members nominate their favorites, and they vote for their favorites as well. Staffs don't have rights to retract the votes as they want.
But anyway, thank you that you've voted for me. I don't know what to say, really. Just, thank you very much for choosing me to be MOTM. *blushed*
COTM
The winner is...Artemis! Congratulations, you deserve it, you are really an experienced RPer. Again, congratulations!
At the moment we still haven't thought what to give to the winner of COTM and MOTM, since this is the first round. In other sites, they usually give graphics, like an award. Or in other sites which use money systems or point systems, they give the winners extra points. We'd like to hear from you. What do you think we should give for the winners of the next round?
Events
We'd also like to say HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY for US members and HAPPY CANADA DAY for Canadian members!
Hera (Carissa)

Hooray July!
fun fact about America:
Because of the Siege at Vicksburg in Mississippi during the American Civil War ended on july fourth they didn't celebrate the fourth of july until shortly after America got involved in World War 2. 1941 was the first celebrated fourth of July for the city since before the siege. They have celebrated it every year since then though.

lol basically the north made the city of Vicksburg starve by surrounding the city. They gave up on July fourth and because they were so angry about the event they didn't count the fourth of July as a holiday until 1941.

I've never known about that. I thought they already celebrated it since 1776. I remember a friend of mine went to USA 2 years ago for summer homestay and she said when it was 4th of July, she watched fireworks in New York! Lucky her...

Yeah fireworks are cool and all when you are going to see them and want to hear them. However when your dog is paranoid, losing her hearing, and sleeping, firecrackers from the neighbors yard and bottle rockets from across the street aren't so very entertaining.
and for helios, probably.

When I was in LA at the time of 4th of July this year, they couldn't shoot off any fireworks at the best place -Santa Monica Pier- due to the dryness of the ground. Coming back from a party, however, we saw them briefly on the highway I was satisfied.
