Calypso lived alone on the island of Ogyia in the Ionian sea. Odysseus was once her prisoner for seven years and was promised immortality aslong as he stayed with her. She longed for him to be her husband, despite the fact that he already had a wife. In his stay she mothered two children: Nausithous and Nausinous (who were never accepted by their father). Because of Athena, Zeus ordered Calypso to set him free and she reluctantly did so.
Bitter and depressed, Calypso has held a grudge against Penelope ever since. Despite her lost love, Calypso still remains on the island of Ogyia having everything anyone else would want.
