Physical Appearance: Dioedas is of average size for a man of his region and age. Standing just a few inches under six feet tall, he is not intimidating or fearsome. Though he is generally a good-looking man, he is almost always hidden under the soot of his occupation. His long, black hair is almost always swept back to be kept out of his solemn, hazel eyes. Brute strength is not a huge ally of his, though he is by no means weak. His muscles are lean and fit, adding quickness and resilience to his frame, rather than sheer strength.

Personality Description: Dioedas is a rather quiet man. He is fiercely loyal to those that have earned his trust (though there are few left alive.) He is an honest, hard-working man, but he is not without his dark traits. There is a certain mysteriousness about him. Though just a few years ago, he was a popular, desirable young man, he is now seen as an outcast because of his hate for the gods. He holds them in no esteem, and does not worry over their powers. In his mind, he makes his own fate, regardless of what the gods or anyone else thinks.
Likes: Wine, water, food, relaxing, being successful, company (from friends or women,) working with rare metals or on special projects.
Dislikes: The gods, religion, Spartans, Epirots, Macedonians, Illyrians, war, war without purpose, getting ripped off.
Strength: The ability to see weaknesses in defenses or weapons, and his quick speed. Since he is a blacksmith, he knows how to look for weaknesses, and his muscles are lean and in shape.
Weaknesses: To his shame, Dioedas has proven to be slightly shaken in the face of battle. He made a terrible mistake and ran away from his troubles rather than facing them. There is a demon from his past that he has to face, but feels he cannot.

Family: Never knew his father. His mother's name was Clarissa; she died when he was fourteen.
History: Dioedas was born 23 years ago to a single mother. He never knew his father, and his mother never even mentioned a name. All of his life, he assumed his father was either a shameful man that had run away, or that he had died in a shameful way that was forbidden to be mentioned. Ironically, Dioedas would later curse the trait of shamefulness that his father passed on to him. The beginning of the Greek's life was hard. His mother barely made enough money as a prostitute to support herself, and with a child, it was nearly impossible for her to provide enough support. Dioedas took to the streets as soon as he was able, and learned to take care of himself. He joined up with a small group of thugs and through their effectiveness, he managed to live.
Though his mother protested his criminal activity, Dioedas continued to do what odd-jobs he could in order to survive. He continued his life of criminal activity up until his fourteen year of life. In that year, a terrible war swept across the lands of his kingdom. With the gods unheard of, the lands descended into darkness. Peasants rebelled against the nobles, and a great civil war spread. Dioedas' town was raided and destroyed by rebels, and his mother was killed. Swearing vengeance against the gods, and against the rebels, Dioedas went to fight for his king, leaving behind his life of crime for good.
Being only fourteen when he joined the army, Dioedas became the apprentice of a blacksmith that marched with the king's 1st stratos. He trained under the man for three years until he came of age. Upon his turning 17, Dioedas joined the ranks of the king's army to deal a final blow to their enemy. He proved himself as an exceptional warrior through the first years of his fighting, enough so that some considered him a "hero." His namesake and fame would be shattered in the final battle of the war, however.
To save lives, the king proclaimed Dioedas would fight against the best warrior of the rebels and whoever won decided the outcome of the battle, and the war. The man Dioedas was set to fight was a monster, and famed as a ruthless warrior. Dioedas, being small and weak in comparison, accepted the challenge grudgingly. He fought the man, only to have both of his arms broken after ten minutes of battle. Rather than accepting his defeat, he retreated into his ranks. The king's men lost heart at the sight of their "hero" running, and retreated from the field only to be slaughtered. The rebels took control, and a new king was appointed.
Dioedas, who had expected to be executed, was brought before the king. Rather than be killed, the king decided to let him live the rest of his life in shame. After the war had ended, and peace resumed, he returned to his hometown and took up work as a blacksmith. He has remained there for the past two years. He is known as a coward, and runs a mock of a business because few worthy clients buy his services. Daily, he curses the gods and himself for his shame... and hopes to someday redeem himself.
