History:
Anteros, with Eros, was one of a host of love gods called Erotes, the ever-youthful gods of love, usually depicted as a constant presence in the company of Aphrodite or her attendant goddesses. Anteros is the son of Ares and Aphrodite . He was given to his brother Eros, who was lonely, as a playmate, the rationale being that love must be answered if it is to prosper. He is depicted as being similar to Eros in some ways, though tends to have a less mischievous and more somber view of his duty. He has been described also as armed with either a golden club or arrows of lead, which also depicts his rather serious nature.
An altar to Anteros was put up by the metics in Athens in commemoration of the spurned love of the metic Timagoras, who was rejected by the Athenian Meles. Upon hearing Timagoras' declaration of love for him, the young man mockingly ordered him to throw himself down from the top of a tall rock. Seeing Timagoras dead, Meles repented and threw himself down from the same rock. Anteros is also known to have power over the more emotional side of love rather than the sexual. He causes the lovers to experience pain when they are apart, and relief when they are together, the mirror image of the lover's feelings, counter-love.

The result of the vision was exhilarating as much as the overbearingly ring of homesickness in my heart was intoxicating. As the day drew to a close, the darkness began to cloak the once vivacious beauty of the hot morning into one of coolness and of breathtaking mystery. The stars slowly blinked into the deep sky of the night as the ache for its beauty pierced my soul. The stars appeared as if windows were suddenly opened into another world, while the moon gazed its silver, luminous face upon the shadows of the earth. The ground was subtly lit with the silver light; a ghostly image. The orange light from the lampposts occasionally pierced the night with its stark contrast against the deep blue, night sky.
I reluctantly closed the blinds to the hauntingly beautiful spectacle of the night. My heart longs, as it does many other nights, for the soft splendor of the evening beauty. As always, my body feels the need for sleep, and the disappointment for my senses is overwhelming. For their need for aesthetics is like the need for water. For without water, the body dies; and without the renewal of the striking art in nature and life itself, my vibrant imagination and passion will just as likely pass away. Art in everyday life is just as gratifying and fulfilling (maybe even more so) as the art that is made by man’s hand.
