Ever wonder what would have happened if James had gotten away? If, while the Cullens were trying to save Bella, James ran? Everything would be completely different. Laurent would have never been killed by the wolves because he wouldn't have in been in Forks looking for Bella. Victoria would have never created all those newborns in order to create an army to take Bella out. Victoria and James are still together, plotting Bella's death, together. Bella's life is in grave danger, only, no one knows it yet. With Alice watching for James all the time, she's missing something of vital importance. People have gone missing. One, two, sometimes four of them every day. There are newborns being created, only, it's not in Seattle. It's right here in Forks.
If James and Victoria aren't in Forks, then who's creating more and more vampires every day? With the residents disappearing, the ones that are still alive are desperate to get out. Charlie can't leave because he's the Chief of Police, and Bella refuses to go to Jacksonville to live with Renee. The Cullens, well, they have no choice. They've decided to stay and try to fight whoever is threatening their peaceful existence in the small town of Forks.
Before Bella, before the vampires came back, Forks was the most inconsequential town in the continental US. Everything is different now. The pack is getting restless, wanting to come off the reservation and deal with the vampires, but the newborns aren't killing anyone. The only clue the Cullens have is that the wildlife in Forks National Forest is disappearing, quickly. That could only mean one thing. A vegetarian vampire is doing this. But why? And for what purpose? The Cullens, along with the help of the pack are going to find out. Even it means risking exposure of what they really are.
